Terms & Conditions

Last updated September 28, 2026

These terms govern your use of Deposit Relief (the "Service"), operated by James Kelsall ("we", "us"). When you use the Service or make a purchase, you are contracting with James Kelsall. By continuing to use the Service you agree to these terms.

The Service

Deposit Relief is a self-help document preparation tool. It provides a free automated review of your security deposit situation against published state statutes and, for a one-time fee, generates a demand letter based on the information you provide.

We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice or representation. No attorney-client relationship is created. Statute information may be incomplete or out of date, and results depend on the accuracy of what you enter. Consult a licensed attorney in your state for advice about your situation.

Eligibility and accuracy

You must be at least 18 years old. You are responsible for providing accurate information and for how you use any document produced.

Acceptable use

  • No unlawful, fraudulent, harassing or deceptive use, including sending letters with knowingly false claims.
  • No spam, and no infringement of anyone's intellectual property.
  • No interference with security: no malware, probing, scraping, or circumventing technical limits.
  • No reverse engineering, resale or redistribution of the Service.

Intellectual property

We retain all rights to the Service, including its software, templates, content and branding. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service and to use letters generated for your own dispute.

Payments

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, tax and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. See also our Refund Policy.

No warranty

The Service is provided "as is". We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, or any particular outcome in your dispute, and disclaim implied warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
